Vicenzaoro has been operating since the 1950s and has grown into the largest B2B trade fair for gold, jewellery, and the precious metals supply chain in Europe. Two editions run each year — one in January and one in September — at the Vicenza Expo Centre. The fair is organised by the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) in collaboration with Confindustria Federorafi, the national federation of gold and silver manufacturers.

Nine Communities, One Supply Chain

The fair is structured around nine specialist communities that map onto successive stages of the jewellery and precious metals value chain. This segmentation allows buyers to move through the fair methodically, from upstream raw material and component suppliers to finished branded product, without navigating a single undifferentiated exhibitor floor.

T-GOLD: Machinery and Technology

One of the most distinctive components of Vicenzaoro is T-GOLD, a dedicated exhibition for machinery, equipment, and technology used in precious metals manufacturing. Exhibits include casting machines, laser welders, CNC engravers, CAD/CAM workstations, ultrasonic cleaning equipment, and polishing systems. T-GOLD runs concurrently with the jewellery fair and attracts a separate buyer profile — predominantly production managers, technical directors, and equipment procurement specialists from manufacturing firms in Italy and abroad.

Branded Jewellery and High-End Collections

The branded and designer jewellery segment brings together established Italian and international names presenting seasonal collections to retail buyers, department store buyers, and multi-brand boutique owners. This section operates under restricted access conditions, with appointments required for entry to many stands. It represents the highest-value segment of the fair by individual transaction size.

Goldsmith Production, Stones, and Components

Three further communities cover goldsmith production (semi-finished goods, chain, and findings), precious stones and gems, and diamonds. Together, these represent the operational core of the fair for mid-scale manufacturers and component buyers. Traders from Antwerp, Mumbai, and Hong Kong attend regularly to present certified parcels to Italian setters and wholesale buyers.

Packaging, Services, and Emerging Technologies

The remaining communities address packaging, display, and brand identity materials; laboratory and certification services; and a technology showcase covering 3D printing, augmented reality for retail, and blockchain-based provenance tracking. The inclusion of provenance technology reflects growing pressure from luxury retail buyers for supply chain transparency.

Attendance and International Reach

Across its two annual editions, Vicenzaoro draws registered buyers from more than 120 countries. Total exhibitor count across the fair and the concurrent T-GOLD exhibition exceeds 1,300. The January edition tends to attract a higher proportion of wholesale buyers placing orders for the spring season; the September edition is more strongly attended by retailers and brand representatives preparing for the fourth-quarter period.

A buyers' programme operated by IEG coordinates hosted visits for international trade delegations, with particular focus on emerging markets in Southeast Asia, the Gulf, and Latin America. The programme covers travel and accommodation for qualifying buyers in exchange for verifiable purchasing commitments to Italian exhibitors.

Goldsmith Training Institutions in Vicenza

Vicenza's goldsmithing workforce draws on a local training infrastructure that extends beyond the fair. ITS Cosmo, an advanced technical institution, operates a Fashion Jewellery Coordinator programme specifically aimed at preparing graduates for the full jewellery value chain — from design brief through production to retail positioning.

The two-year programme runs to 2,000 hours, divided between classroom instruction (approximately 1,200 hours) and supervised internships (800 hours). Technical content covers wax modelling, fire enamelling, engraving, stone setting, and 3D prototyping using Rhinoceros and Rhinogold software. Graduates enter roles in design studios, production management, quality control, and commercial coordination across the sector.

Professioni d'Oro

Confindustria Federorafi and the youth media platform Skuola.net jointly run Professioni d'Oro, a programme directed at secondary-school students aged 14 to 18. The programme delivers classroom sessions, factory visits, and direct meetings with working professionals to present goldsmithing as a skilled career path rather than a declining artisan trade. Vicenzaoro itself hosts events within this programme framework during both fair editions.

The Fair's Role in Price Discovery

Beyond its commercial function, Vicenzaoro acts as an informal price discovery mechanism for Italian precious metals manufacturers. Direct conversations between stone traders, alloy suppliers, and finished goods manufacturers produce a real-time picture of material costs and lead times that cannot be replicated through published indices alone. This information function is a significant reason why manufacturers attend even in years when their own buying or selling activity is limited.

Regulatory and Certification Presence

Several Italian assay offices, including the Ufficio Metrico of the Ministry of Economic Development, maintain a presence at Vicenzaoro. This allows manufacturers to make direct enquiries about hallmarking procedures, Vienna Convention compliance, and national fineness verification requirements without arranging separate appointments. The proximity of certification bodies to commercial exhibitors reflects the integrated character of the Italian precious metals regulatory environment.
